Who we are

Adriano

Engineering physicist, founder of ARS Tecnologia.

Profile

Engineering physicist who graduated from UFSCar. Before founding ARS, he spent eight years at a major beverage company in sales and processes, from analyst to sales manager, leading teams of more than 30 people and building software for the sales force. He then founded his own e-commerce business and worked in education.

He holds a Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt, with a Black Belt project) and did undergraduate research in finite element simulation.

Free software

The curiosity to understand how things work on the inside led early on to operating systems, and above all to UNIX and Linux, which became the everyday working environment. Each system showed a different way of solving the same problems, and over time understanding the reasons behind those choices became more interesting than memorizing commands.

Free software came along and stayed. More than free tools, it is the freedom to open the code, read it, understand it and change whatever needs changing, and to learn from the work of those who came before. Much of what Adriano knows was learned that way, through documentation, forums, other people's code and a lot of trial and error.

It is also what taught him to face what he doesn't know yet. From the Fortran routines of his undergraduate research to apps for sales teams and startup platforms, almost every project began with a part nobody there knew how to do. The path is usually the same: study, test, fail, adjust and keep going until it works. That is what ARS means by doing whatever it takes.
